This Week's Soul Work: Reading: Beginning Chapter 4, "We Agnostics," page 44 to the top of page 45 ending, "...they failed utterly." 1. Look up "agnostic." What does it mean to you? References to the word are found in the Big Book on pages 28, 44, 45, 46, 49, 52, 60, 93, 181 2. Look up "atheist." What does it mean to you? References to the word are found on pages 10, 44, 49, 52, 55, 93, 181 3. Page 44 paragraph 1, "If that be the case, you may be suffering from an illness which only a spiritual experience will conquer." How would you explain this to somebody -- a spiritual experience conquering your problem? 4. Take paragraph 1 in its entirety and write about what you would say to somebody you love or care about if they asked you, "Am I an alcoholic?" 5. Reference in paragraph 2: Is there ever an alcoholic of the hopeless variety? 6. Why is it that when you know you're an alcoholic, it's so difficult to face "To be doomed to an alcoholic death, or to live on a spiritual basis..." 7. Did you come in an atheist or an agnostic? If so, what were you told? What would you say to somebody who told you they are? 8. Workshop question: a) When did you first realize you were using human resources to stay sober? and b) When did you first realize that your human resources "as marshalled by the will" were not sufficient to stay sober?
