look up: barren, genuine, reliance, self-reliance
‘We never thought of making honesty, tolerance, and true love of man and God the daily basis of living.’
Q1. Are you a good influence to people?
Are you living that so you are a good role model for others?
Is the true purpose of your life to be honest, tolerant, truly loving of everyone especially God, as your daily basis for living?
Do you think that this is what your purpose should be?
This lack of anchorage to any permanent values, this blindness to the true purpose of our lives produced another bad result.
Q2. Write about your history of blindness. When did it start? When did you come out of blindness? What do you think you are still blind about?
[This is what step seven is all about. When we are in the food, alcohol, it is so hard to see anything of reality. They are chemicals and they change your body chemistry].
‘Came to believe that a power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity.’
Q3. On the workshop website find the Second Step proposition which goes perfectly with this step.
Where is the insanity in your life?
Why are you afraid of turning this over to God?
[Wherever you are insane right now you know you haven’t turned it over to God. A fear question in there. It is always control. I want to control a situation. The thing is: insanity cannot be controlled. It is like a train without a locomotive going 100 mph down the track].
Q4. Where is the negativity in your life or a person you are blinded about?
b) Have you given them over to God?
[And you may give them over and take them back.]
Q5. Make your own Just For Today card. ‘Just for today I will…’
‘As long as we placed self-reliance first, a genuine reliance onGod was out of the question. That basic ingredient of all humility, the desire to seek and do God’s will was missing’.
Q6. Write on this, really dissect it. Ask yourself:
Am I placing self-reliance first?
Is a genuine reliance upon God what I really want? How am I doing with that?
Do I believe that humility is the basic ingredient?
Do I want to do God’s will?
[Be honest. Remember honesty and tolerance of others means also loving yourself where you are at. If you read Step 7 lying to yourself about where you are in your life what good does it do?
Are you going to get well if you are in denial and lying about yourself? Be stark raving honest.
Then tell somebody. Get honest with your sponsor, buddy, somebody.. Get it up and out.
Steps 6 and 7 are all about really looking at yourself in the mirror].
