Second step proposition: http://www.recoverydaily.com/2ndstep.htm In the Big Book, the reference to the second step proposition is on page 53, second paragraph: "When we became alcoholics, crushed by a self-imposed crisis we could not postpone or evade, we had to fearlessly face the proposition that either God is everything or else He is nothing. God either is, or He isn't. What was our choice to be?" This Week's Soul Work: Reading: Beginning Chapter 4, "We Agnostics" page 46 paragraph 2 to end of first paragraph page 47. Writing: 1. Where is there any unmanageability in your life? Is it a relationship? Taking quiet time? Taking care of house and children? This is what to start with in the second step proposition. (See above link to the second step proposition in announcements). 2. When did you first seek a Higher Power in your recovery program? Tell the story. Write about your seeking and the end results. 3. Did God make "hard terms" when you started seeking Him? 4. How would you help a brand new person who is so confused, so muddled, and having such a hard time staying sober? How would you help them in their seeking a higher power? 5. Look up "earnestly." Did you earnestly seek God in the beginning? 6. Are you still today earnestly seeking a deeper relationship with God in your recovery? 7. Consider this prayer for a newcomer: "God, I don't know anything about You, but I'm willing to be willing." a) would this have been helpful to you when you first came in? And b) have you used it with a newcomer and found it helpful? 8. Top of page 47, "...we mean your own conception of God." Would this have been helpful to you in your early recovery? 9. Look up "prejudice." Are you guilty of doing that with things spiritual? 10. What else in your recovery are you prejudice about? 11. Who would you talk about your prejudices about? 12. Workshop writing: Take what has been said today and formulate something very deep inside. Consider these questions: Are you still seeking and deepening by earnestly seeking your Higher Power? Are you in the willingness to be willing of Step 2? Are you on the second step proposition and are you seeing something in it? Write on "come, came to, and came to believe." What stage are you at? When you sit in your quiet time, do you feel you have the full attention of your God? Ask, "God, what do you want me to know about step 2, coming to know You, and using You as a God in my life?" END
