Soulwork The Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous: The Doctor’s Opinion Page xxvi ‘Frothy emotional appeal seldom suffices. The message which can interest and hold these alcoholic people must have depth and weight. In nearly all cases, their ideals must be grounded in a power greater than themselves, if they are to re-create their lives. If any feel that as psychiatrists directing a hospital for alcoholics we appear somewhat sentimental, let them stand with us a while on the firing line, see the tragedies, the despairing wives, the little children; let the solving of these problems become a part of their daily work, and even of their sleeping moments, and the most cynical will not wonder that we have accepted and encouraged this movement...' Look up: ideals, grounded, sentimental Q1. Where is God in your continuum?. Is God the most important thing in your life? Q2. Is your way of life well-balanced and sensible in all areas? Is your sobriety integrated into a sensible way of life or are you over the top with your recovery? [If you are new, your well-balanced life is different from those with over 90 days.] Q3. Are you well-balanced in your family life or are you co-dependent in your work and in other areas of your life? Q4. Meditate, pray and then write on this prayer: God/Higher Power I have not arrived and I thank you God for giving me the grace of my sobriety. And God bring me to where you need me to be so I can be helpful to others. Amen. Q5. Do we recreate our lives so that we look good and people pat us on the back? Or recreate our life out of thanksgiving to God for bringing us out of the dung heap of addiction and recreate us so that we can be helpful to others? Q6. How do you want to be recreated? Q7. Write on the slogan: Stop Drop and Ask God for help. Writing in the workshop Q8. Is your recovery contributing to making your whole life well-balanced and sensible?
