The Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous: The Doctor’s Opinion Page xxv ‘Later he requested the privilege of being allowed to tell his story to other patients here and with some misgiving, we consented. The cases we have followed through have been most interesting; in fact, many of them are amazing. The unselfishness of these men as we have come to know them, the entire absence of profit motive, and their community spirit, is indeed inspiring to one who has labored long and hard in this alcoholic field. They believe in themselves, and still more in the Power which pulls chronic alcoholics back from the gates of death.’ Soulwork Look up unselfishness Q1. How are you doing with your Quiet Time? Is it as much a priority as sobriety? Q2. Are you a real alcoholic in your step one fellowship or are you a moderate or problem drinker/clutterer/overeater? Q3. Examine how you are have been telling your story. Have you been sharing the true recovery programme of the Big Book? Q4. . Do you believe it is a privilege to tell your story? Q5. Are you amazed that today you are sober today by the grace of God? Q6. Do you believe, like Bill W and the first 100 alcoholics, that you have a message to give ? Q7. Do you believe that the power of God pulls chronic alcoholics and indeed yourself back from the gates of death? ‘The unselfishness of these men as we have come to know them, the entire absence of profit motive, and their community spirit is indeed inspiring…’ Q8. Write for ten minutes in the workshop Take this sentence and with the Third Step Prayer ask God to come into your writing as to how you fit the bill. Maybe do a 10th step Ends
