This Week's Soul Work: Reading Reference Chapter 2 in the AA Big Book, "There is a Solution," last paragraph page 23, "The tragic truth..." to page 24 italicized paragraph ending, "...the first drink." Definitions: Look up "tragic." Questions: 1. "He has lost control." What's the progression of sanity in your life concerning substances, people, behaviors, keeping you out of control? 2. Can you see a common thread in all of these? Can you see a common thread in your recovery from all of these? 3. Do you believe that it is a God-centered miracle when you become aware you are out of control with a certain substance or behavior? 4. What role does God play when you get that awareness that you are out of control? 5. Is there any area of your life right now where your own best desire to stop is of "absolutely no avail?" 6. Look up the word "tragic." What does a tragic situation look like to you in your life? What is your own personal definition? 7. "This tragic situation has already arrived in practically every case long before it is suspected." From your experience, do you believe that? 8. In recovery doing big book step study in one way or another, do you have to have the absolute powerlessness to stop behaviors long before they become a huge problem? 9. Do you think you have to have a tragic situation before asking God for help or getting accountability around something? 10. As a recovered person, behaviors can be nipped in the bud. Are you there yet, is that your goal, or do you not believe it's possible? 11. Workshop 10-minute writing: Write down, "I am without defense against the first drink." Do you believe that? Have you lived it? Now write, "We are without defense against the first drink." Put a triangle around the word WE in the book with a question mark. Knowing the way we work the "we," do you believe it? Is that your defense? Triangle concept explained: God is at the top. Your name at the bottom right. Accountability and support people and fellowships on the left. Arrows go up on both sides, to God, both directions. Arrows go both directions at the bottom. END
