Big Book page 59 For next two weeks we will be on pages 59 and 60. We ended last week with: “Remember that we deal with alcohol – cunning, baffling, powerful! Without help it is too much for us. But there is One who has all power – that One is God. May you find Him now!” If any of you would like Stephanie to take a special prayer request to the Wailing Wall in Jerusalem e-mail her at [email protected] and she will print it out and put it in the wall. Soul work Look up: availed, protection, care, complete, abandon and complete abandon. What do each of the last 5 words/ word phrases look like – separately & then ‘ complete abandon’ together? Q1. Have you found your Higher Power now? Q2. Have you given that Higher Power all power? Q3a) Or have you given your Higher Power only the power not do your addiction? 3b) And if so, write about your experience and your resistance and what made you willing to turn your addiction over to your Higher Power? Q4. Having gone through the experience of being desperate enough to give your Higher Power power over your addiction, write out an action plan to allow your Higher Power the same power in the other areas of your life. Q5. Half measures availed us nothing. We stood at the turning point. We asked His protection and care with complete abandon. What is a half measure? Stephanie wants us to really dig deep and explore our definitions. Is it not doing Quiet Time? Is a half measure relying on things human like your sponsor, a 12-step group? Half measures can be ‘I do a 4th and 5th step but that’s as far as I get, and I see my defects and God will take care of them.’ ‘I did a thorough 4th step and I know who I need to make amends to but I am not making amends to them.’ What is your definition of a half measure in your recovery? Q6. Notice the word ‘us’. Half measures availed ‘us’ as a group? as an individual? What does the ‘us’ mean? Q7. Revisit the spiritual ‘we’ at the start of the Big Book. DRAW A TRIANGLE OVER THE ‘us’ in “Half measures availed US nothing.” PUT the Spiritual ‘WE’ at the Top & ‘US’ Under the triangle. At the RIGHT, put accountability partner/encourager, step 1 fellowship, etc. At the LEFT, put YOU. a) Are you in a spiritual ‘we’? b) Is that how you are living your life? Q8. We, us: all of us together. If not every day encouraging somebody in recovery then Stephanie does not consider herself or her sponsees in the spiritual ‘we’. If you are not living in a spiritual ‘we’ please come up with an action plan where you can start living in a spiritual ‘we’. Q9. Pushing, pulling, shaming, guilty, cajoling, has no place in a spiritual ‘we’. a) Are you guilty of that? Encouraging is the opposite of this. b) Where are you in working a spiritual ‘we’? Q10. Are you standing or are you still in that powerless state? Q11. Stephanie’s definition of a turning point is that you turn from what you were doing to what you know your Higher Power wants you to be doing. What is your definition of a turning point and are you at that turning point? We asked His protection and care … above ‘His’ write ‘God’ or ‘HP’ or your name for your HP.
