This Week's Soul Work: Opening reading: Book “As Bill Sees It" page 84. Workshop text: As part of Step 6, continuing the book "Drop The Rock," page xvii (17) "Bill's thoughts" to end of Introduction on page xix (19). 1. Refer to page xviii (18). Take each step 1-12 and write how each principle represents that step for you. Those principles in order are: honesty, hope, faith, courage, integrity, willingness, humility, brotherly love, justice, perseverance, spiritual awareness, and service. 2. Page xix (19), "all the grasping and holding on to old patterns of behaving, thinking and feeling that are harmful to ourselves and to others." a) identify one harmful pattern of behavior b) identify one harmful pattern of thinking, and c) identify one harmful pattern of feeling, operating in your life today. (They might or might not be regarding the same issue). 3. Now take each of those three areas of behavior, thinking and feeling that you identified and write the new, useful and helpful pattern you want to aim for as the goal in each of them. Workshop text: As part of Step 6, continuing the book "Drop The Rock," page xv (15) last paragraph: "The action of the Sixth and Seventh Steps culminates in dropping the rock—all the stubborn, grasping, stupid holding on to old patterns of behavior, thinking, and feeling that are harmful to our progress in recovery." 1. Write on Page 82 today of "As Bill Sees It." (It is attached in an image at the bottom of this email). 2. When was the last time you were at a business meeting where there were opposing viewpoints? a) What was your group's way of handling it? b) How did the chairperson handle it? c) How did you handle it in your being? d) Were you willing to listen to their reasoning about what they wanted? e) How did you handle the outcome when your viewpoint didn't have group conscience? f) How did you handle it when your viewpoint DID have group conscience? g) How did it affect how you felt and interacted with the opposing viewpoint people? 3. When did you have a conflict in your personal life, when you had different viewpoints? How did you handle it? 4. How do we handle conflict in our recovery groups and in our personal life? 5. What's "the action" that you have to take on the 6th and 7th step? (Hint: starts on page 101 of Drop The Rock. Another hint: Go to Quiet Time). 6. Look up the word "harmony." 7. What old patterns of behavior have you seen at this point? And what is at the bottom of the old patterns of behavior? 8. What’s the difference between being joyous and free, and being happy? Give me an example of why you might think they’re the same. 2. Why do you think the steps are ordered for a reason? What’s been your experience taking the steps in order? Have you taken the steps out of order, and has that worked for you? 3. In looking at the whole vision of the 12 steps, how do you perceive the wisdom that was given to Bill Wilson on why he ordered them the way he did? 4. Excerpt page xv: "This prevents us from falling into the trap of understanding only just enough of the Program to make us miserable and not enough to make us happy. For example, some of us might fall into the trap of thinking the support system of the fellowship (meetings) is the entire Program of action."
