This Week's Soul Work: Opening reading: "As Bill Sees It" page 56. Workshop text reference: AA Big Book, Chapter 6, Into Action, Page 75, second paragraph “We begin to feel…” to Page 76 first two sentences. Handout attached to this email is an optional “How to 12-step a problem.” 1. As a result of steps 1-5, do you feel a nearness to your Creator? 2. Have you had a spiritual experience? Write about it if you feel comfortable sharing it. 3. Has the feeling come that the drink (or other) problem has disappeared? 4. Do you feel like you’re walking hand in hand with God today? 5. Did you do this hour when you finished your fifth step? Did you thank God that you know Him better? 6. Did you ask God if you omitted anything? 7. Do you feel free today? Is there any area of life that you don’t feel free in? 8. How are you feeling about the step work? Is it solid? Are the stones properly in place? 9. Have we skimped on the cement put into the foundation? 10. Write on “What God brings me TO, God will bring me THROUGH.” 11. Have we tried to get these promises without putting the work in? 12. Can you answer all these questions truthfully with God and another human being? 13. Look up “indispensable.” 14. Action: Are we now ready to let God remove from us all the things which we have admitted are objectionable? a) Get 3x5 index cards. b) Go to Quiet Time. c) Say Third Step Prayer and Set Aside Prayer. d) Ask God, “Show me what is objectionable in my life.” Note: Attached is an optional 2-page handout “How to 12-step a problem” that a workshop member shared which may be of interest to you.

What do each of these mean to you in realistic terms, to do that? 2. What is your life like when you pray, plan, prepare and protect? 3. Did you try to run the show this week in any way, shape or form? 4. Page 153, “…he began to listen.” Give an example of when you didn’t listen. Give an example of when you did listen. Compare the two. 5. Page 154, “one idea, and that was sobriety.” What is the idea of sobriety for you? Think about your sobriety and what it means to you all these years later. 6. Who was the first person who 12-stepped you? Have you ever formally thanked that person? If not, are you willing to go back and thank them or write them a note, or if you don't know where they are, are you willing to pray for them with thanksgiving? 2. When you meet someone who mentions that they have an alcohol or food problem, are you willing to talk to them about your miracle, your sobriety story? 3. When was the last time you were able to do that? 4. When you tell your own story, what do you concentrate on? 5. How do you handle a new person or someone you're working with who insists they can get well on their own steam? 6. Have you ever met somebody that was foggy and a little belligerent, and you took a risk and told them your story, in AA, Al-Anon, OA or DA? 7. Do you tell them about the hopelessness that you experienced in "the drunk's dilemma?" (Page 152 first paragraph reference) 8. How are you doing today? Are you feeling hopeless about anything? What's your action plan? 9. Do you see it as a self-caring action to protect your sobriety and relationship with God to talk to a newcomer, and sponsor if possible? End |
