Look up the word "hollow." 2. What's your definition of humility? Look it up. Write out what it looks like to work Step 6 with humility as a guide. 3. What's your experience, strength and hope experiencing the promises after Steps 8 and 9? 5. Look up "The Four Absolutes" from early AA recovery, and write them down: Honesty, Purity, Unselfishness, Love. 6. What's your "daily surrender?" Do you make a daily surrender? Write about Stephanie's definition of emotional sobriety: "To see how I get in my own way and how emotions get in my way." Now write on your definition of emotional sobriety and share it with somebody. 2. "I must be persistent in "consistents". (Play on the word consistency as a noun). Write on this slogan. 3. Did you rationalize a character defect this week? If you did, what did you do about it? 4. "Our capacity to rationalize is unlimited." What is your experience with this? 5. Write about the four basic reasons we won't be "entirely ready:" a) Conscious decision that we will never give up a specific defect. b) Blaming our defects on others: people, situations, institutions. c) Rationalization. d) Denial, unaware of our own contribution to our problems. 6. Write out the question from the text: "How many times in active addiction did we say we were sorry without the slightest intent of changing our behavior so we wouldn't have to say we were sorry again?" Do you have somebody in your life you can be 100 percent honest with? 2. Find a place in your home you feel comfortable. Make it your own prayer corner. Have your Quiet Time consistently. 3. Look up "ongoing." Look up "process." 4. Can you say that you're looking at your life as a half-full glass? If not, what's going on with you? Do you need to forgive somebody in order to let go of self-pity? Do you need to go to somebody right now and just talk things out so you can let go of self-pity? 5. a) Is there any self-pity in your emotions right now about anything? Write about it. b) Write a "Dear God" letter, asking God for an action plan on how you can deal with self-pity in a healthy, recovered way with emotional sobriety. And c) What has been your experience in overcoming self-pity? 6. Take these paragraphs read today and write about them. (Page reference is noted above). 7. Reread Drop The Rock Page 13 (xiii) paragraph four, "I went to Hazelden..." and write about it. 3. The program is asking us to go where we've not gone before. Are you willing? 4. Look at your past: Who has God sent you for help? Do a timeline of the people coming into your life to help you. 5. Write about situations in your life where you have had lessened fear about something, diminished anger, fewer resentments, and genuine self-esteem instead of self-pity. Write a current happening with each of these four, or more than one instance of them.
