A A 12 x 12 . pages 155-9 Tradition Six An A.A. group ought never endorse, finance or lend the A.A. name to any related facility or outside enterprise, lest problems of money, property, and prestige, divert us from our primary purpose.’ Soul work * Page 156 2nd paragraph: ‘Providence, through A.A., had brought us within reach of our highest expectations’. Above the word: Providence write: ‘God’ * Write this down: Share a tiny little bit of your story and what you are doing, and see what comes back. Look up: meritorious, quarantine, neurosis, consternation, endorsements Q1a. Has 2015 taught you what works? b. How are you going to bring that into 2016? c. Are you going to stay open to learning even more about what works? [If you know what works you are obviously not going to do what doesn’t work. Write down what works and bring it to Quiet Time. And make sure you have gratitude that you learnt what works. Then ask God in Quiet Time: How can I expand on this? That is what a recovered person is all about. You know what works and you keep asking to improve. Looking at life as a half-full glass.] Q2. Look at perfectionism. Why do you want it? [My experience personally and when working with people is that beneath perfectionism is fear that you are not good enough. Perfectionism makes you very self-centered. You are not really thinking ‘what can I do to help others?’ but rather ‘how can I look perfect and how can this work out so I look good.’ It is a very fearful way of living, no trust. It’s also sad. I lived that way for many years].

Soul work Circle each word in your 12 x 12 and look up the meaning of: open-mindedness venture haltingly aim Q1. If you feel you are not at all open-minded, put that on a card for your assets. And in your Quiet Time ask God what would open minded look like? Q2. Are you going to venture into open-mindedness and daily keep asking God: ‘What new venture do you have for me today?’ We shall need to raise our eyes towards perfection and be ready to walk in that direction. Q3. It does not say I have to be perfect. It says that I am to go towards ‘Good’ to ‘Better’ and keep on asking God to lead me to even better. Write on that. Write an example of where God had you and something was OK but then because of the venture into open-mindedness you went from better to great. Q4. Who is in charge of your life…is it a human being or is it God? Q5 a). The only question is: are we ready and are we willing to venture into open-mindedness? b) What would it look like to do things a little bit differently? Q6. Is there anything in your life about which you are saying: This I will never give up? You know it is hurting you, your relationship with God, your family and your recovery? *There will be a workshop on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve. 12/10/2015 0 Comments Recording For December 10, 2015(week 206) 10 December 2015 12 Step Study Workshop (All Addictions)
Send donations towards the upkeep of the website to: Stephanie Whiting PO Box 531 North Pembroke MA 02358 If you are new and want to be on the members’ list and receive the weekly soul work e-mail: [email protected] Tuesdays 8am EST. ‘Pass It On’ – Bill Wilson’s biography, a tremendous read and opportunity to learn more about the Big Book. It is an intimate group and everybody is welcome. AA 12 x 12 Step Six pages 67-68 Step Six is a preparation step. On 3 x 5 cards write down each character asset to offset the character defect you found in Step Four. We have lived for too long in self-condemnation with our character defects. Now, with God’s help and one another, we are going to try to live in our character assets. Look up the definition. Take a card every day and in your morning Quiet Time ask God how to work the chosen asset today. Soul work Stephanie suggests that every day we put on our Action Plan the question: ‘How can I encourage one other person today?’ [The person could be your sister, brother, husband, wife, colleague, friend, stranger, someone in the programme, etc.] Encouragement is one of the greatest gifts we can give one another. look up: perverse superiority obliged implication perfection ideals encouragement Self-righteous anger also can be very enjoyable. In a perverse way we can actually take satisfaction from the fact that many people annoy us, for it brings a comfortable feeling of superiority. 1. Are you harbouring self-righteous anger towards anybody? 2. Are you taking satisfaction that many people annoy you? 3. Are you unconsciously (or even consciously) living with an attitude of superiority because you have got recovery, are doing the Big Book, etc? 4. Where do you stand in relation to gossip? 5. Where are you with taking your comfort with food instead of going to God Note: There will be a workshop on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve. 12/3/2015 0 Comments Recording For December 3, 2015(week 204) 3 December 2015 12 Step Study Big Book All Addictions Workshop

Every day take a card to work on. Say today it is Humility.. So in Quiet Time ask God what it looks like to have humility. Then write an action plan around your day remembering that it is humility you are asking God to help you with today. This is how we are going to be working steps six and seven: as a half-full glass. soul work Page 65 penultimate paragraph underline: lifetime job. Page 66: In the last line of first paragraph underline: grace of God. look up: exult masquerade superior ambition Step Six – “Were entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character” – Q1. How many of us have this degree of readiness? You can write about this or say: ‘I am ready, bring it on.’ “No, I cannot give this up yet.” Q2a). Write on what this means and why you saying it. b) Change the ‘cannot’ to ‘won’t’. Are you ready to say: I won’t give this up yet? And pray for the willingness to be willing? Write about that. 3. Write on where you have seen the Grace of God working in your life this past week? Then bring that in thanksgiving to your Quiet Time. Q4.
