The Doctor’s Opinion page xxvii (last paragraph) Stephanie’s suggestion is to make recovery intimacy a priority. Q1.What does recovery intimacy mean to you? Are you afraid of it and how do you work it? What sacrifice for recovery intimacy is God asking of you which are not doing? Q2 Describe in your own words the phenomena of craving. [It is especially challenging to describe the phenomena to someone who does not have it] Q2. Write about a particularly memorial occasion such as an appointment, a party, interview, date etc. that you missed due to the phenomena of craving which caused you to pick up. Q3. a) Are you making a supreme sacrifice (putting other things ahead of your program) rather than to continue to fight for your sobriety, intimacy with the group, your sponsor and sponsees? b) Have you lost the balance between God, recovery and life? How are you doing? Q4. Write your own definition of the moderate drinker. Are you a moderate drinker? Do you remember when you were one? Reflect on those you know in your step one fellowship , your sponsee, someone in your family. [It is not for us to say whether someone is a moderate drinker which would be playing God]. If you are able, please send a contribution large or small, so we can show her our appreciation in time for Christmas. Send to: Stephanie Whiting PO Box 531 North Pembroke MA 02358 Soulwork The Doctor’s Opinion top of the page xxvii ‘…the sense of ease and comfort which comes at once by taking a few drinks..’ Beside this write: The lie the disease feeds me ‘… After they have succumbed to the desire again..’Above ‘they’ write ‘we’ ‘…they pass through the well-known stages of a spree…’ Above ‘spree’ write ‘binge’ ‘…this person can experience a entire psychic change..’ Above ‘psychic’ put ‘spiritual awakening’ ‘…the only effort necessary being that required to follow a few simple rules.’ Above ‘rules’ write ‘actions.’ Write down: God will give us the ability to daily pray, plan, prepare, partner and protect our actions. Look up: impunity, craving, aggregate Q1. Before your spiritual experience describe how you would go through the phenomena of craving, emerge remorseful with a firm resolution not to drink/eat again only to repeat the cycle over and over. Q2. Write about the last incident. . Q3. Describe the sense of ease and comfort which we believed came taking the first bite. How is that a lie of the disease? Q4. How can you stop the emotional cravings with a God sandwich? After you have taken the first bite, by putting in God how can you stop the physical craving from going into a binge? [Stop Drop Pray]. Men have cried out to me in sincere and despairing appeal: Doctor, I cannot go on like this! I have everything to live for! I must stop, but I cannot! You must help me! Write ‘God’ above ‘Doctor’ Q5. Have you cried out like this to someone - a doctor, family member, priest, rabbi, a minister? What was their advice? [It would be interesting to hear that and for you to remember.] Q7. Do you live that advice today? And if so, how has it changed now you are sober? Workshop question Q8. Without a spiritual connection one will take the first drink, emerge remorseful, have a firm resolution to not drink again and repeat this over and over. Describe this cycle to a newcomer and how to get a spiritual change? [Pray, plan, prepare, partner and protect]. Ends |
