This Week's Soul Work: Reading Reference Chapter 2 in the AA Big Book, "There is a Solution," page 24 paragraph 3 "The alcoholic may say to himself...", to page 25 first paragraph, sentence ending, ..."consummation." Definition: Look up the word consummation. Questions: 1. How many years did you live with the "I'll stop with the sixth drink?" 2. What changed between "I'll stop with the sixth drink" or "what's the use" and recovery? Was it meetings, meeting someone, spiritual experience, getting arrested, something happened that you stopped? 3. Read in paragraph 4 page 24, "When this sort of thinking..." ending with "...permanently insane." Do you accept this as a reality? 4. "These stark and ugly facts..." Do you believe these stark facts, that if you have alcoholic tendencies, you're probably beyond human aid? 5. Have these facts been confirmed by you? 6. Have you seen "But for the grace of God" on the wall? What was your first impression of what it meant? What does it mean for you today? 7. Do you know a lot of people who want to stop but cannot? Are you one of them in a specific area? Smoking. Coffee. Bad relationships. Toxic job. Do you know that living in the triangle with this is unhealthy? Maybe even emotionally or physically killing you, which is also spiritually killing you? 8. If this is the case, are you willing to come out in the open and tell somebody, and are you willing to find help from 12-step accountability or a sponsor? 9. Workshop writing question has five parts: Take the sentence at the top of page 25, There is a solution. a) Do you believe that there is a solution for every problem in your life? b) Have you found the solution for all the issues in your life? c) How would you guide a newcomer find the solution for their problems? d) How has living in the solution changed your life? e) If an area in your life is still a problem, what's your action plan to find a solution? 10. Have you seen the process work on others? Has it worked in your own life? What areas has it specifically helped you? 11. Have you seen that recovery really works? 12. The solution. The Big Book tells you what it is, page 25: 1. self-searching and 2. leveling of pride and 3. confession of shortcomings. Do you believe the solution is 1, 2 and 3, and that this makes up the process? END

Questions: 1. Workshop writing: Look at your last 24 hours. What was your main priority in actions? Who was your main priority in relationships? Where did God fit in? 2. I can live half full or half empty. Write about: when half empty, this is the way I think: When half full, this is the way I think: 3. Am I a lone wolf in my recovery in any way, shape or form? 4. Do you realize how much you need God and quiet time and God with skin on? 5. Should I compare myself to anyone? What happens when I compare myself to other people? 6. Do you believe one of the most dangerous actions is to compare yourself with another person? 7. We have role models instead of idols. Who are your role models in recovery? What do they role model for you in recovery? 8. Write 10 people's names and numbers on a card to call "my 911 people." Have AA (or other fellowship) central service number on the card. Have these also in your phone. 9. You can stop now. Write, "I can stop even though I am in the middle of a binge." With help from God, "stop, drop and pray," and call. Definitions: Look up "tragic." Questions: 1. "He has lost control." What's the progression of sanity in your life concerning substances, people, behaviors, keeping you out of control? 2. Can you see a common thread in all of these? Can you see a common thread in your recovery from all of these? 3. Do you believe that it is a God-centered miracle when you become aware you are out of control with a certain substance or behavior? 4. What role does God play when you get that awareness that you are out of control? 5. Is there any area of your life right now where your own best desire to stop is of "absolutely no avail?" 6. Look up the word "tragic." What does a tragic situation look like to you in your life? What is your own personal definition? 7. "This tragic situation has already arrived in practically every case long before it is suspected." From your experience, do you believe that? 8. In recovery doing big book step study in one way or another, do you have to have the absolute powerlessness to stop behaviors long before they become a huge problem? 9. Do you think you have to have a tragic situation before asking God for help or getting accountability around something? 10. As a recovered person, behaviors can be nipped in the bud. Are you there yet, is that your goal, or do you not believe it's possible? 11. Workshop 10-minute writing: Write down, "I am without defense against the first drink." Do you believe that? Have you lived it? Now write, "We are without defense against the first drink." Put a triangle around the word WE in the book with a question mark. Knowing the way we work the "we," do you believe it? Is that your defense? Triangle concept explained: God is at the top. Your name at the bottom right. Accountability and support people and fellowships on the left. Arrows go up on both sides, to God, both directions. Arrows go both directions at the bottom. Definitions: Look up malady, baffled, suspect (verb), rouse, abnormal, lethargy Questions: 1. How are you "once in a while" telling the truth to your accountability people? How are you living with the truth to your accountability people? Have you reached 100 percent truth or is it 95 percent? If it's under 100 percent, why? What's going on that you don't have accountability people to be honest with? Is it pride, shame, guilt? 2. "Why" is the wrong question. It's "what can we do about it?" Write about the difference between figuring out why, and what am I going to do about it. 3. Write out some of the excuses you've used, and how did it work for you giving yourself an excuse. 4. Are you baffled by your own behavior today, or by anything in your life today? 5. Do you have an obsession that somehow you'll beat the game on addiction or anything else in your life? 6. Is there any such thing as exerting your willpower? Is there any hope that you will rouse yourself from lethargy and assert your willpower? Write about it. 7. Workshop question. Underline in paragraph 4, "real alcoholic." Write what your definition of a real alcoholic is. What happy day may not arrive?
