Today’s group conscience business meeting discussion was on format and length of the workshop. Nine people voted for a one hour format. Seven voted to keep the hour and a half format. Vote needs to be majority, two-thirds. Next business meeting will be in three months, with advance notice. Mark calendars for Tuesday, October 29. Announcement: Open study buddy group on Sunday needs more participation. Phone number is listed above. Buddy Questions: 1. Reflect upon today’s group discussion. 2. Write about where and if you are being selfish, dishonest, fearful or resentful. 3. Take what you have heard today into prayer, considering what you need, and what the group needs. Group workshop question: #1 below. Definition: Look up "deportment" Buddy Questions: 1. Do you believe, as an ex-problem drinker who has found a solution, that you can make a difference? Give an example, such as at your job, in your family, in the world. 2. When was the last time you did something and got honest with your sponsor? Do that now: Write it down and read what you wrote to your buddy and then to your sponsor. 3. What is your description of the "real answer?" What is the real answer for you, and what would be the real answer you give a prospect? 4. What does "Holier Than Thou" mean? Write about the attitude. Do you have a holier than thou attitude? 5. The "sincere desire to be helpful." What does that mean to you? Give an example when you just showed a sincere desire to be helpful. Give an example when you didn't. 6. How many of you tried to please people in the 12-step halls? 7. How did you do this week in respecting people's boundaries? 8. Do you have an inner desire to have other people think and believe the way you do? 9. Can you accept that your boundaries are a gift to those we meet, so that we don't step on their toes? 10. Write about "100 percent honesty with kindness about our boundaries keeps other people safe from our potentially hurting them." 11. How are you doing "practicing these principles" in all your affairs? Next week: Group conscience during the meeting for feedback on the workshop format, length, and attendance. If you were to see a doctor or psychiatrist, would they deal with a 100% honest person? Would you tell them the truth? Are you that open when people come into your life? Have you reached that point in recovery yet? 3. Write about DENIAL, “don’t even know I am lying.” 4. Do you know that being completely honest is a huge problem? Would you say that 100 percent honesty would be your “number one” in your own recovery? 5. Write this down: Wherever I am today is a start. What can I be honest about that I haven’t been honest about before? 6. Honesty does not always please other people. Are you willing? 7. How are you doing in owning your own recovery? 8. How have you done in the last month to win the confidence of another person in recovery? Definitions: Look up "annihilation" Group workshop question: #6 below, write on the statement, "You will get what you need and what you want from every meeting if you get out of yourself and give service to the group and others." Buddy Questions: Q1: Do you have joy in your life around your sobriety? Q2: Are you like the passengers that got saved from a shipwreck? Q3: Has the joy somewhat subsided? Q4: When you go to a meeting, do you feel the group is keeping you away from the common peril of relapse? How do you feel when you go to your fellowships? Q5: Write about this: The most important person in an AA meeting is the newcomer. Q6: Write about this: You will get what you need and what you want from every meeting if you get out of yourself and give service to the group and others. Q7: Have you found a common solution? Have you found a way out? Is that way out something upon which everyone would agree? Q8: Give me an example of a harmonious action that happened in your groups or your buddy group. Q9: Give an example of something that was not harmonious in your groups or buddy group. How did you handle it? Were you able to be a positive influence? Group workshop discussion: Buddy question #1 below. Buddy Questions: Q1: "There is a solution." When you see this, what is your first response? What emotion does it bring up? Do you believe there is a solution? Are you trusting it Q2: Diagram what the triangle represents. Draw a triangle. Put God at the top, fellowship on the bottom right, your name on the bottom left. Arrows on both sides going up. Arrows going both directions on the bottom. The word "we" in the center of the triangle. How are you doing with all parts of the triangle? How are you doing with a higher power, going to fellowship, and is fellowship coming to you? Q3: Do you believe "hopeless" is a good place to be? Have you gotten to that state? Look up the word "hopeless." Q4: Write about defeated pride. Q5: Write about your version of "hopeless." Example, Stephanie's description of hopeless: "Of myself, I am nothing. With God, I have hope. With God, I can/will recover." Q6: When you have a slip in your recovery, can you do the following: 1. Steps one, two and three, 2. Get 100 percent honest about it, and 3. Move on? Q7: Do you feel when in AA (or other) that you're all clinging to a life raft to be saved? Q8: Write about how the fellowship has changed your life. |
