If someone is no longer on the meeting it is an opportunity to ask if they would be interested in joining the next Big Book workshop which will start after we finish Step 12 & Tradition 12. Step 12: “Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these steps, we tried to carry this message to alcoholics, and to practice these principles in all our affairs.” 12 x 12 Page 107:2 ‘Beginning with Step Four we commenced to search out the things in ourselves which had brought us to physical, moral and spiritual bankruptcy. We made a searching and fearless moral inventory. Looking at Step Five, we decided that an inventory, taken alone, would not be enough. We knew we would have to quit the deadly business of living alone with our conflicts, and in honesty confide these to God and another human being.’ Q1. Choose a hand-out from the website and share with your buddies. Q2. Listen to one of the talks on You Tube by Sandy Beach, Joe Hawke or Mark Houston. Q3. Write out your experience of doing step 5. [Never never push anyone out of denial including yourself. That is God’s job. When you are ready God shows up and so long as you keep doing the work God will give you that awareness. God always brings a person a book, a talk, something when they are ready. When you push someone out of denial you are trying to play God. It wont work, you will hurt them hugely, maybe causing a nervous breakdown, leaving the programme, leaving you as their sponsor going out again drinking, drugging. Let somebody be. Walk beside them and let God be God. That is truly your part in the fifth step: to walk beside them. You listen, witness what work they have done and don’t push, pull, prod, dictate or dominate. You let God gently bring them to where God wants them to be. That is the role of a big book step study sponsor and every sponsor, friend and as a human being. To walk alongside and be encouraging. ‘We knew we would have to quit the deadly business of living alone with our conflicts, and in honesty confide these to God and another human being.’ Take this sentence seriously. Underline it. Q4. Are you living alone in your head? Are you sharing from your head not your heart? You may talk to your family but are you living alone in your heart towards them and towards people in general? If you are, be honest. You have a chance of putting a crack in that hard heart towards someone. The first step is to bring it to yourself, then God and then to another human being. Living alone with a hardened heart is deadly. You may not drink, but it will rob you of your joy of living, of being sober. We did not come to AA to be robbed any more. We came to live. So quit the deadly business of living alone with a hard heart. Q6. Write on your experience of getting to know someone. [Al-Anon suggests you start by sharing just a little of your story. Then wait and see the other person’s response: the words, the body language, eye contact. Then you trust a little bit more. And see what comes back. Never give away the whole loaf of bread. You break off a little bit at a time and see what the response is. If you go slow you never have to feel like you ended up naked, shamed and embarrassed because the other person never took off their clothes and exposed their heart. It is a wonderful life when you can truly be yourself with someone].

Step 12: “Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these steps, we tried to carry this message to alcoholics, and to practice these principles in all our affairs.” 12 x 12 Page 107. A.A.’s manner of making ready to receive this gift lies in the practice of the Twelve Steps in our program. So let’s consider briefly what we have been trying to do up to this point: Step One showed us an amazing paradox: We found that we were totally unable to be rid of the alcohol obsession until we first admitted that we were powerless over it. In Step Two we saw that since we could not restore ourselves to sanity, some Higher Power must necessarily do so if we were to survive. Consequently, in Step Three we turned our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood Him. For the time being, we who were atheist or agnostic discovered that our own group, or A.A. as a whole, would suffice as a higher power. Beginning with Step Four, we commenced to search out the things in ourselves which had brought us to physical, moral, and spiritual bankruptcy. We made a searching and fearless moral inventory. Soul work If you have not already done so, listen to the summary of steps 1, 2 & 3. Callback No. 641 715 3900. Part 1: pin no. 235934# Part 2: pin no. 578290# Pick a handout from the website that you find especially valuable in your walk with the Big Book. Share it with your buddy, get a folder and write for example: ‘This would be good for step 1,2. etc. ..’ Look up: paradox, atheist, agnostic Underline For the time being, we who were atheist or agnostic discovered that our own group, or A.A. as a whole, would suffice as a higher power. Q1. Why is Step One an amazing paradox? [Pray and meditate on how you were brought to physical, moral and spiritual bankruptcy and how, with God’s help, you have been able to have an action plan around physical moral and spiritual recovery] . Q1. Have you been able to search out what brought you to: a) Physical bankruptcy? [For instance, for me it is having total abstinence, no alcohol. For the food, I know once I eat I cannot stop. I real labels and have a food plan. Thats what brought me to physical recovery] b) Moral bankruptcy? [Going to Quiet Time and asking God to give me an action plan on my character defects. And looking on the back of your 3 x 5 cards for the character asset and asking God what does that look like in my life and then making an action plan and having accountability around it.] c) Spiritual bankruptcy? [Fear is spiritual bankruptcy. We are fearful because we are not trusting God]. Two essential questions: i) What was I afraid I wasn’t going to get? ii) What was I afraid I was going to lose? Q2. Am I a person of gratitude? Am I magnanimous in my willingness to help others? Q3. How is Step 12 a living organism within me, physically, morally and spiritually? He has been set on a path which tells him he is really going somewhere, that life is not a dead end, not something to be endured or mastered. In a very real sense he has been transformed because he has laid hold of a source of strength which, in one way or another, he had hitherto denied himself. He finds himself in possession of a degree of honesty, tolerance, unselfishness, peace of mind, and love of which he had thought himself quite incapable. What he has received is a free gift, and yet usually, at least in some small part, he has made himself ready to receive it. Q1. Where in your life do you feel you are enduring more than enjoying? b) How can you turn the situation around and see it with eyes of gratitude? c) Have been able to rise up and out of a situation (past or present) and find things to be grateful for? d) If you currently have a situation in your life, maybe write a Dear God letter asking for help on how to rise above it. Read it to your buddies. Say every day: I am going to make an action plan as to how to rise above rather than endure this situation. Q2. Life is a half full glass not a half empty one. Write on this slogan or incorporate it into your answer to the above questions. In a very real sense he has been transformed because he has laid hold of a source of strength which, in one way or another, he had hitherto denied himself. Q3. What is your definition of being transformed? How has your life has been transformed? Q4. Is God a source of strength to you? Q5. Do you find yourself in possession of a degree of honesty? How much? Have you reached 100% honesty about 100% of your life? If not, where is the dishonesty? (Maybe with yourself, your husband, children, etc.) Q6. This is the first day of the rest of your life. What are you going to do with it? Please text 617 774 7916 or email [email protected] any acronyms or slogans for the website and use in the next Big Book workshop. To new A.A.’s this often seems like a very dubious and improbably state of affairs. “What do you mean when you talk about a ‘spiritual awakening’?” they ask. Maybe there are as many definitions of spiritual awakening as there are people who have had them. But certainly each genuine one has something in common with all the others. And these things which they have in common are not too hard to understand. When a man or a woman has a spiritual awakening the most important meaning of it is that he has now become able to do, feel, and believe that which he could not do before on his unaided strength and resources alone. He has been granted a gift which amounts to a new state of consciousness and being. He has been set on a path which tells him he is really going somewhere, that life is not a dead end, not something to be endured or mastered. In a very real sense he has been transformed because he has laid hold of a source of strength which, in one way of another, he had hitherto denied himself. Look up: dubious, endure, master. Q1. Stephanie has told her what she means by a spiritual awakening. What do YOU mean? Q2. Write on this: When (write your name here…..) has a spiritual awakening the most important meaning of it is that she has now been able to do, feel, and believe, that which she could not do before on her unaided strength and resources alone. Q3. How has recovery changed your thoughts about your life and enduring life? 5/3/2018 0 Comments Recording For May 3, 2018(week 329) 3 May 2018 12 Step Study Big Book All Addictions Workshop

The joy of living is the theme of AA’s Twelfth Step, and action is its key word. Here we turn outward toward our fellow alcoholics who are still in distress. Here we experience the kind of giving that asks no rewards. Here we begin to practice all Twelve Steps of the program in our daily lives so that we and those about us may find emotional sobriety. When the Twelfth Step is sen in its full implication, it is really talking about the kind of love that has no price tag on it.’ Here we begin to practice all twelve steps of the programme. circle the word ‘practice.’ Q1. When you are afraid it is like Miracle Grow on your character defects. What is your experience? Q2. Stephanie spent two hours with a group of friends cleaning and then going outdoors to pull weeds and make the place look good. They laughed and she felt joyful and peaceful inside and so connected to God and to others. Do you have people like that in your life? [We all need connection. We ate and drank because we felt disconnected.] Q3. Write on the analogy of the two pin plug for the electric light being plugged in as connected to your higher power and to yourself. Q4. When you are out of emotional sobriety and your plug is broken i.e. your connection with God and yourself, are you willing to sallow your pride and ask God and a trusted friend who can really help and guide you into having an inspiration from God? Here we begin to practice all Twelve Steps of the program in our daily lives so that we and those about us may find emotional sobriety. Q5. Are you in emotional sobriety? What does this mean?
