This Week's Soul Work: Reading Reference Chapter 2 in the AA Big Book, "There is a Solution," page 24 paragraph 3 "The alcoholic may say to himself...", to page 25 first paragraph, sentence ending, ..."consummation." Definition: Look up the word consummation. Questions: 1. How many years did you live with the "I'll stop with the sixth drink?" 2. What changed between "I'll stop with the sixth drink" or "what's the use" and recovery? Was it meetings, meeting someone, spiritual experience, getting arrested, something happened that you stopped? 3. Read in paragraph 4 page 24, "When this sort of thinking..." ending with "...permanently insane." Do you accept this as a reality? 4. "These stark and ugly facts..." Do you believe these stark facts, that if you have alcoholic tendencies, you're probably beyond human aid? 5. Have these facts been confirmed by you? 6. Have you seen "But for the grace of God" on the wall? What was your first impression of what it meant? What does it mean for you today? 7. Do you know a lot of people who want to stop but cannot? Are you one of them in a specific area? Smoking. Coffee. Bad relationships. Toxic job. Do you know that living in the triangle with this is unhealthy? Maybe even emotionally or physically killing you, which is also spiritually killing you? 8. If this is the case, are you willing to come out in the open and tell somebody, and are you willing to find help from 12-step accountability or a sponsor? 9. Workshop writing question has five parts: Take the sentence at the top of page 25, There is a solution. a) Do you believe that there is a solution for every problem in your life? b) Have you found the solution for all the issues in your life? c) How would you guide a newcomer find the solution for their problems? d) How has living in the solution changed your life? e) If an area in your life is still a problem, what's your action plan to find a solution? 10. Have you seen the process work on others? Has it worked in your own life? What areas has it specifically helped you? 11. Have you seen that recovery really works? 12. The solution. The Big Book tells you what it is, page 25: 1. self-searching and 2. leveling of pride and 3. confession of shortcomings. Do you believe the solution is 1, 2 and 3, and that this makes up the process? END
