Q1. Why does Bill want a doctor’s opinion?
Why it is it so important to him, the public , the medical profession, and the world at large?
Above all, why is it important to YOU and your sobriety and recovery?
We doctors have realised for a long time that some form of moral psychology was of urgent importance to the alcoholic.
Q2.Moral psychology is another way of saying spiritual principles.
a) Why are spiritual principles of urgent importance in your sobriety and recovery?
b) What are you doing now specifically about your Quiet Time? Do you have a specific time?
A specific room? Do you bring questions to God in Quiet Time?
Do you have a daily action plan.and have accountability about it?
[These are not to convict you and make you feel guilty. They are for you to think about , Maybe I could try one of those if I am having trouble.]
Q4. I don’t have to be perfect. I can be perfectly imperfect and recovered. Write on this.
[The only thing thing you have to do perfectly is be perfectly imperfect and 100 percent honest. We are not imperfect about our honesty but letting life happen and not having to be perfect is really important. Do not put pressure on yourself. We are going to be here for a minimum of six years. That is a long time. If you put pressure on yourself you are not going to finish. I dont care if you arent perfect. I am not perfect. I am perfectly imperfect.].
Write this down: URGENT: Quiet Time is urgent.
Q5 Do you think Quiet Time is the most important aspect of your recovery and if so why?
If you disagree, write out why this is.
Spiritual principles was of urgent important to alcoholics, but its application presented difficulties beyond our (the medical profession) conception.
Q6 Have you ever had a primary care doctor ask you about your faith?
Q7. Right now, are you God with skin on with anyone in your life ?
‘…we are perhaps not well equipped to apply the powers of good that lie outside our synthetic knowledge.’
Next to the word ‘good’ write GOD.
look up synthetic.
Many years ago one of the leading contributors (put Bill W) to this book came under our (Dr Silkworth) care in this hospital (Towns Hospital) and while here he (Bill) acquired some ideas
(in the margin write: spiritual experience and helping others) which he put into practical application at once.
Q8. For ten minutes during the workshop write on what were some of the ideas that Bill W acquired and what was their practical application?
